Piping Fabrication

S-Con, Incorporated provides prefabricated process piping systems to the oil and natural gas industries. Custom designs can be generated using our 3D modeling programs or we can utilize existing client provided designs. S-Con, Incorporated maintains its own extensive specifications which are utilized to properly design a system based on the process conditions as well as selection of materials for each job. S-Con can additionally utilize a client provided specification if available.

S-Con, Incorporated’s experience is focused on the production of process piping systems built from the following materials:

  • Carbon Steel
  • Stainless Steel

To prevent cross contamination, separate areas are utilized for the fabrication of our stainless-steel process piping systems. S-Con specification is based on welding diameters from 2” to 24”, but larger sizes can be handled. Smaller than 2” can be socket welded. Lengths can vary, but spools of up to 60’ are frequently handled in our shops. Welding is performed using Gas Metal Arc (GMAW) and Flux Core Arc (FCAW) procedures. In certain circumstances Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW) or Gas Tungsten Arc (GTAW) may be used, for example, if we must go to the field to weld.

Fabricated Piping Systems

  • Pipe Spool Sizes from ½” to 30” diameter
  • Pipe Spool Lengths up to 60’
  • Vessel Instrument Bridles
  • PSV Tail Pipes

The piping spools fabricated by S-Con, Incorporated are typically supplied for the following applications:

  • Natural Gas Treating and Processing Plants

S-Con, Incorporated’s piping systems meet the latest applicable federal, state, and local codes.

  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
  • American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)
  • American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
  • American Petroleum Institute (API)
  • National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE)
  • Manufacturer’s Standardization Society (MSS)

Once a piping system is fabricated, the welds will be x-rayed and hydrotested. S-Con will standard 100% x-ray all x-rayable welds. Once all welds have been tested and pass, we will hydrostatically test the piping systems to 1.5x MAWP for a minimum of one hour. During this test, we chart the pressure and temperature using a Crystal nVision Pressure Recorder/Data Logger with integral RTD for temperature logging. In certain cases where you need to prevent from adding water to the system such as cryogenic piping, we will use nitrogen as the test medium. When performing a nitrogen air test, certain precautions need to be taken due to the potential hazards of pressurized air tests, which is why a detailed plan is put together based on our testing specifications, applicable codes and client approval.

All new process and utility piping systems are designed, fabricated, assembled, examined, inspected, and tested in accordance with the latest edition of ANSI/ASME B31.3 “Chemical Plant and Petroleum Refinery Piping”, and comply with design practices as defined within client provided or in-house specification and with all mandatory national, state, and local laws.
